Bonding for Title In Colorado
The bonding procedure is to be completed when ownership documents (title) are not available for a vehicle or are not correct and cannot be transacted on. The owner bonding for title must be in possession of the vehicle or manufactured home, and it must be physically located in Colorado. The bonding transaction will be completed with the owner’s county motor vehicle office.
Instructions and required forms for the bonding process can be found on the DR 2922 Title or Salvage Title Established by Surety Bond form; all DMV forms can be obtained via the Forms webpage.
Certified Vin Inspections are by appointment only with the Colorado State Patrol. Certified VIN Inspections are $53 effective July 1, 2024; only cash or check is accepted (exact change required).
Bonding for Title In Another State
If you are bonding for title in a state/jurisdiction other than Colorado, you may be required to do a record search in Colorado if the vehicle was last titled here. Records searches can be completed with the DR 2489A Motor Vehicle Requestor Release Affidavit of Intended Use form (Forms webpage) or online via myDMV in the Vehicle Services tab under “Records”.
