Division of Motor Vehicles’ new Colorado Driver Handbook available online, features myColorado app integration

Soon-to-be-motorists can prepare for the written driver license test with the Driver Handbook Practice Quiz

LAKEWOOD, Wednesday AUGUST 19, 2020 -- The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is shifting gears with its latest edition of the Colorado Driver Handbook as the Division focuses on bringing as many in-office services online as possible.

The Colorado Driver Handbook, which is out now on digital platforms, is a manual the DMV publishes on an as-needed basis to help soon-to-be-motorists learn how to drive safely and lawfully on Colorado highways and byways.

The new handbook emphasizes digital use, so Coloradans can #SkipTheTripCO to a driver license office to pick up a copy. Coloradans can download the handbook online at the DMV’s website or access it through the myColorado™ app, which is available on Google Play or the Apple App Store. Coloradans can also print the 32-page handbook if they prefer having a physical copy.

As an added learning tool, the DMV is proud to offer the Colorado Driver Handbook Practice Quiz. This 30-question quiz focuses on many elements found in the written driver license test, which Coloradans must successfully complete to be eligible for an instruction permit. This is the first time the DMV has offered a practice quiz online and is part of the Division’s commitment to ensuring Colorado motorists are road ready. The practice quiz is available in the myColorado app, as well.

In the coming weeks, driver license offices will also have limited supplies of printed copies available for customers who already have in-office appointments. The DMV printed 72,000 Driver Handbooks in 2019 and hopes to cut that by more than half in 2020. This move, along with streamlining the publication, will help the DMV save money while benefiting the environment.

“We want to empower Coloradans to get the Driver Handbook no matter where they are,” Driver License Director Rosalie Johnson said. “Coloradans can access the Driver Handbook anywhere as long as they have an internet-connected phone, tablet or computer; or they can download it and access all of its great content later regardless of internet connectivity.”

For more information, please visit www.Colorado.gov/DMV/DriverEducation. Please visit myColorado.state.co.us, Google Play or the Apple App Store to download the myColorado app, which offers the Colorado Digital ID™ and 19 other DMV services, including license renewals.

Soon-to-be-drivers should remember that the DMV is not currently offering drive tests, but the Division has a list of driving schools currently offering tests online at www.Colorado.gov/dmv/locationsclosures-delays.
