What's Happening and When

The Colorado DMV is launching a major digital makeover in February 2026. The state is upgrading its entire system, including the public e-services platform, myDMV, to offer users a simpler, faster, and more secure experience.

Coloradans can expect a new option for a streamlined user experience, complete with a secure, logged-in customer portal that offers a dashboard for managing vehicles, licenses, and personal information, as well as correspondence with the DMV, with unprecedented ease.

To make this change, temporary but necessary closures will occur. Please note the following key dates:

  • Tuesday, February 10 (11:59 p.m.): Driver license online services - renewal, upgrade, downgrade - will be unavailable.
  • Friday, February 13: Scheduled appointments not available at state DMV offices after 3 p.m. All other DMV online services and CO MV Express kiosks transactions will be unavailable after 7 p.m.
  • Monday, February 16: The system upgrade is complete.
  • Tuesday, February 17: DMV online services and CO MV Express kiosk transactions re-launch. Scheduled appointments not available at state DMV offices.

This brief adjustment is essential to roll-out and verify that the new systems are functioning correctly. Click here to read more.

How to Get Started (User Account Setup)

Once the new system is fully implemented, Colorado residents can expect a streamlined experience featuring more user-friendly online e-services and a secure, logged-in customer portal. Customer Portal FAQs

The customer portal gives you direct access to your Colorado driver license or ID (CO DL/ID) and any vehicles you’re listed as an owner of. If you’re not an owner but need to handle transactions on behalf of a family member, you can still do those outside the portal, just like you do today.

Yes, all registered owners of a vehicle can link that vehicle to their individual customer portal accounts.

No, vehicles are linked to a customer’s online portal account based on who the legal owners are in the DRIVES system.

When you title your vehicle, it will be automatically linked to your customer portal account right away if you provide your CO DL/ID during the transaction. If your vehicle doesn't appear in your portal, or if you didn't provide your CO DLN/ID when you titled the vehicle, you can submit a "Link my Vehicle" request. Just make sure the first and last name on your CO DLN/ID exactly matches the owner's name listed on your vehicle's title.

Yes, if your vehicle is registered in Colorado, you can still renew it online with an out-of-state DL/ID. This transaction happens outside of the customer portal.

No, the online customer portal on myDMV is separate from the myColorado app.

If you prefer not to enter your Social Security Number (SSN), you have two options for identity verification:

  1. Enter a proof document number from your most recent credential issuance transaction.

    OR

  2. Have an identity verification code sent to you via physical mail. Once you receive the code in the mail, you will use it to create your account.
