Common Inquiries
If you cannot find what you need online, you will need to schedule an appointment before visiting a State Office. Services provided in-person:
- Any State Driver License Office location:
- First-time driver license/permit
- Take a CDL permit test
- Take a written permit test (online test available)
- Take a written endorsement test (motorcycle)
- *Renew a driver license/ID/permit (if you are not eligible for online renewal)
- *Upgrade or downgrade a driver license
- Add endorsements
- *Change an address
- Replace lost or stolen driver license/ID/Permits
- Name changes on existing Colorado licenses/ID/permits
- Duplicate driver license/ID

If you need to take a Drive test, these are performed by third party driving schools and some County DMVs. Check this list of approved driving schools or your local County DMV.

Colorado is a REAL ID-compliant state, which means all United States citizens, permanent residents, Commercial Driver’s License applicants, and Freely Associated States residents. Any applicant that meets the requirement for a REAL ID credential must provide proof of identification, lawful status, and residency and provide a SSN. Undocumented or Temporarily Lawfully Present are eligible for a federally non-compliant Standard license or identification card pursuant to the Colorado Road and Community Safety Act.
