Proof of Address Changes Effective Aug. 19

Beginning August 19, 2015, individuals applying for a Colorado driver license, instruction permit, or identification card will no longer be able to use documents displayed electronically or documents more than one year old. Two documents demonstrating current residential address are required.

Individuals with a valid or expired less than one year, Colorado driver license, instruction permit or identification card displaying their current physical address can present only that document to meet the updated requirements

All other applicants will need to provide two proof of physical Colorado residency documents when applying for a document. Those applicants include:

  • First time and new applicants
  • Individuals with a Colorado driver license, instruction permit, or identification that has been expired over one year
  • Individuals changing the address on their card
  • Individuals reinstating their driving privilege and require testing

Proof of Address Information

Documents presented to the DMV must include the applicant's name, full residential address, and be dated within one year. Electronic documents or documents that only display a PO box number are not acceptable.

These changes are required for Colorado to remain compliant with the federal REAL ID Act and do not affect individuals applying for a Colorado Road and Community Safety Act (CO-RCSA SB13-251) document.

This new requirement does not affect applicants of cards issued under the Colorado Road and Community Safety Act (Senate Bill 13-251).
