General DMV In-Office Appointment Frequently Asked Questions

Renew Colorado Driver License/ID/Permit: Use this button if you have a current, or expired less than one year, Colorado license, identification card, or permit and are not eligible to renew online. This appointment type may also be used to renew, upgrade or downgrade a driver license, add endorsements, change an address or replace lost or stolen DL/ID/Permits.  You can also use this appointment type for changing your name on their existing Colorado license, I.D. or permit.

Written Test: Use this button if you need to take a written test, such as for an instruction permit (including CDL and motorcycle), or if your license has been expired one year or more. If passed, you will receive an instruction permit. You can also take your written test online, click here for more!

First Time CO DL/ID/Permit: Use this button for all initial driver license or identification card issuance; permit issuance if the written test has been completed with a 3rd party tester; and transferring a license from another state.  This appointment type can be used for turning in third party test results, requesting a hearing date, or making a reinstatement payment. Please note: Some offices are unable to provide full reinstatement services. Motorcycle Drive Test: Use this button for the Motorcycle Skills Drive Test, which is required to upgrade a motorcycle instruction permit to a motorcycle endorsement. This service is offered on a limited basis at only a few State driver license offices. This test is also provided by third-party testers throughout Colorado.

3 Dealer Titles Processed: Use this button if you are a licensed Colorado dealer who wants to have 3 dealer titles processed over the counter.

CDL Written Test: Use this button to schedule a Commercial Driver License written test.

Commercial Vehicle IRP: Use this button for International Registration Plan services. This is for carriers conducting business across multiple states. These appointments are for new accounts, renewals, and supplements.

CO-RCSA SB251: Use this button if you are an undocumented resident who does not have a current SB251 credential or if you need to take a written test. 

CO-RCSA SB251 Renewal: Use this button if you are an undocumented resident who has a current SB251 driver license, I.D. card or instruction permit. If no upgrades are needed, you may be eligible to complete this transaction online at myDMV.Colorado.gov. It can also be used to upgrade an I.D. to a permit, or a permit to a license, if testing has been completed at a third party.

Motor Vehicle Report: Please use this appointment type to request a copy of your own Motor Vehicle Record (if you are unable to complete this online) or if you have the proper permissions (completed DR2489), request a copy of another customer's Motor Vehicle Record.

MVR/Reinstate/Pay a Ticket/DOT Med: Please use this appointment type if you need to provide requirements and fee to reinstate your driving privilege from a cancellation, denial, suspension or revocation; to provide a current DOT medical card if you are a CDL driver; or if you have received a ticket from an agency whose jurisdiction is a county court (you may pay that ticket with us within 40 days of the issuance date of the ticket. If you pay within 20 days, you are eligible for an automatic point reduction. This will preclude you having to go to court).

Other Non-County Title and Registration Services: Use this button for specialty state title and registration services. If you are trying to title or register your regular personal vehicle you need to go to your county motor vehicle office. Services included for this appointment type are as follows:

Other appointments: All other appointment types are specifically offered at certain locations. These services aren’t available at other State driver license offices. These appointments and their locations include:

  • Reinstatements at Lakewood
  • Motor Vehicle Services at Lakewood

You may schedule an appointment by calling 720-295-2965 or by using the online scheduler. Customers with gaming or sports betting questions should visit the Division of Gaming website.

  1. If using the appointment scheduler, select the service you need.

  2. Select the office that you would like to visit.

  3. Once you select an office, you will see a calendar. Dates with available appointment slots will be highlighted in green.

  4. To advance to the next month, click the arrow button at the top of the page.

  5. Once you select a day with available appointment times, a list of available times will appear at the bottom of the page.

  6. Select the time you wish to schedule.

  7. Once you select a time, a page will come up asking you to enter your information. Please remember that the name and date of birth entered into the scheduler must match the person who arrives for the appointment. This cannot be modified later.

  8. The email address entered will receive the confirmation email for the appointment.

  9. Once you finish entering the information, click submit. You will then see a confirmation page. Print this page using the print button at the top right and bring it with you to your appointment. Please verify that all information on the page is correct. If the information is not correct, please click the "x" box at the bottom left of the page to cancel your appointment.

Please select the "First time CO DL/ID/Permit" option from the menu.

Motor vehicle registration is handled by individual counties. Please contact your county of residence for more information.

DMV Appointment Online Check-In Frequently Asked Questions

The Appointment Online Check-in upgrade is an update to our appointment system that gives the DMV greater flexibility in scheduling appointments and allows customers to check in for their appointment from wherever is most convenient for them.

Nothing other than to complete scheduling an appointment at myDMV.Colorado.gov. You’ll be asked to enter a contact email address and/or a cellphone number to receive text messages.

There are a few ways you can check into your appointment. You can bring our automated email and a Driver License technician will scan its barcode; by replying to our SMS text message; or by scanning the QR code located near the entrance of each driver license office, you will then get a message when it is time to enter the lobby.

The Driver License technician greeting customers will be able to check you in.

You will receive an SMS text message notifying you when to walk up to the building.

You choose where you want to wait for your appointment -- car, coffee shop or wherever is most comfortable and convenient for you!

You can still schedule an appointment by calling the DMV at 720-295-2965 or 303-205-2335 for SB 251 appointments. Each driver license office has a greeter and they can check you in for your appointment.

Each state driver license office has a Pocketalk translation device, which can translate over 80 languages, and can use the devices to help you DMV.
