New Driver Handbook available as audiobook option for first-time ever; print, digital versions available in English, Spanish

LAKEWOOD, Thursday OCT. 13, 2022 -- Coloradans now have more options than ever before in how they get road ready with the latest edition of the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Driver Handbook.

The latest edition of the Driver Handbook is out now as an English audiobook for the first time ever, and is also available in print and digital versions in English and Spanish.

The Driver Handbook is a manual the DMV publishes to help soon-to-be-motorists learn how to drive safely and lawfully on Colorado roadways.

The DMV cautions drivers to watch for pedestrians

LAKEWOOD, Friday, Sept. 30, 2022 -- In an effort to save lives, the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) reminds motorists to watch for pedestrians during National Pedestrian Safety Month.

The awareness month is from Oct. 1 to 31, a time when Coloradans traditionally spend time outdoors, especially when celebrating Halloween by trick-or-treating.

Historic Colorado Contest asks Coloradans to help design state's 150th anniversary license plate

LAKEWOOD, Monday, Sept. 19, 2022 -- From Buffalo Bill Cody to Molly Brown and Dr. Justina Ford, Coloradans have a habit of making history, and with the DMV’s newest effort, Centennial State residents have another opportunity to do just that.

The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is pleased to launch the Historic Colorado Contest, a license plate design contest aimed to honor the state’s 150th anniversary with a commemorative license plate.

New DMV options seek to help in emergency situations

LAKEWOOD, Thursday Aug. 25, 2022 -- The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles is pleased to announce another step forward in its efforts to better serve all Coloradans.

Eligible Coloradans can now voluntarily disclose they have a disability that affects their ability to communicate with first responders on their driver license or identification card, and/or vehicle registration. 

The new, optional services are helpful during medical emergencies and interactions with law enforcement when communication can be difficult.

Say cheese! Coloradans can now smile for driver license photos

LAKEWOOD, Wednesday Aug. 3, 2022 – There’s a new reason to smile at state driver license offices. Coloradans can now smile when having their photo taken for driver licenses, identification cards or instruction permits.

“We are always looking at ways to better serve Coloradans,” said Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles Senior Director Electra Bustle. “We want to offer the opportunity to residents to smile if they like the next time they get their photo taken at the DMV.”

So the next time you need to get your picture taken at a state driver license office, say “Cheese!”

DMV fielding translation devices to better serve Coloradans who have difficulty communicating in English

July 19, 2022 -- It’s rare that the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles and science fiction intersect, but with the DMV’s drive to better serve all Coloradans, that just happened.

The DMV is fielding over 70 pocket-sized devices that can interpret more than 80 languages, similar to universal translators found throughout popular science fiction franchises.

Each of the State of Colorado's 35 driver license offices have received the Pocketalk Plus translators and are able to better serve those Coloradans who have difficulty communicating in English. 

Aspiring drivers can now take DMV’s Driving Knowledge Test online

LAKEWOOD, Tuesday, July 12, 2022 -- The first step in obtaining an instruction permit in Colorado just got much more convenient.

The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is pleased to announce its newest service, online Driving Knowledge testing, which gives Coloradans the ability to test for an instruction permit online at any time, anywhere, no appointment needed as long as they have internet access and a working webcam. Driving Knowledge Tests are often called written or permit tests colloquially.

Frisco Driver License Office undergoing remodel to better serve Coloradans

LAKEWOOD, Wednesday June 29, 2022 -- The Frisco Driver License Office is being remodeled to better serve Coloradans.

The effort, which should be completed by July 8, will improve the driver license office’s ability to serve Coloradans by adding an additional service station, among other improvements.

Until the remodel is complete, the Frisco office will have one testing and one service station available.

Vehicle registration renewal reminders to resume July 6

LAKEWOOD, Wednesday June 15, 2022 -- Due to end of fiscal year programming updates, motor vehicle registration renewal reminders for Coloradans’ whose vehicle registrations expire in July 2022 will not be mailed in June.

These registration renewal reminders will start being sent on July 6. Due to this, August renewal reminders could also be delayed. 

The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) encourages Coloradans to check when their vehicle registration expires and plan accordingly.
