Agency’s online services offline over Presidents’ Day Weekend for system upgrade

DENVER — The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) successfully serviced 1,361 individuals during its recent “Super Saturday Sprint,” a strategic two-weekend initiative designed to expedite licensing for first-time applicants and new residents.

Held at the Aurora and Westgate Driver License Offices, the event focused on reducing wait times for essential credentials, including learner’s permits and state IDs.

“We recognized that there was an urgent need to reduce appointment backlogs,” said Electra Bustle, senior DMV director. “The Super Saturday Sprint demonstrated that the high-intensity, weekend service windows were an extremely effective tool for the community.”

On Saturday, Jan. 31, a team of 56 DMV employees from 15 different offices, including support staff, assisted 630 customers in a six-hour window. The momentum continued on Saturday, Feb. 7, as the team helped an additional 731 individuals.

“We were very pleased with the outcome of the event, and while we weren’t able to complete every transaction, which was primarily due to external factors such as missing documentation, the majority of our customers received the services they needed, validating the success of the added hours,” said Bustle.

As the Colorado DMV continues to evaluate metrics and appointment demand, it plans to implement similar service expansion programs in the near future.

Meanwhile, all DMV online services and kiosks will be unavailable starting at 7 p.m. Fri, Feb 13 as the state upgrades its driver license and motor vehicle technology system with a modern, more secure, and user-friendly platform.

  • Friday, February 13: State DMV offices close at 3 p.m. All other DMV online services and CO MV Express kiosks transactions will be unavailable after 7 p.m.
  • Monday, February 16: The system upgrade is complete.
  • Tuesday, February 17: DMV online services and CO MV Express kiosk transactions re-launch. Scheduled appointments not available at state DMV offices.

Residents planning to visit a county location are encouraged to check their local County Clerk & Recorder websites, as each county will manage its own post-upgrade office availability schedule.
