You must renew your vehicle’s registration each year. You should receive a renewal notice in the mail.
-
Gather what you’ll need
To renew your registration, you will need:
- Your license plate number
- Last 8 digits of your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or Verification Code on your renewal notice
- Proof of insurance
- Proof of an emissions test, if required: once your vehicle passes a test, gas emissions will be uploaded into the system generally overnight (if not sooner), diesel tests can take up to a week to upload. Passing tests can also be brought to your county.
- All registration fees: The cost of renewal varies based on where you reside, the vehicle's age, weight, and taxable value, as well as the type of license plate you have.

Renew Your Registration
Renew your registration in one of four ways: online, at a self-service kiosk (located at some local grocery stores), in person, or by mail.
If your vehicle’s registration is expired by more than 13 months, you must renew directly with your county motor vehicle office (by mail or in person).
The easiest and most convenient way to renew is online through the myDMV Colorado website.
MV Express Kiosks are located in many King Soopers and Safeway stores. Find a kiosk near you.
You can get your stickers (tabs) on the spot, but there is usually a small convenience fee.
Follow the instructions on the renewal postcard sent to your home. Mail your check and any required documents (like proof of emissions) to your County Clerk’s office.
Check with your local County Clerk’s motor vehicle office to see their business hours and how they handle in person transactions.
