Colorado DMV prepares for major tech upgrade

DENVER - Tuesday, December 30, 2025 - The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is launching a major digital makeover in February 2026. The DMV is excited about the benefits this will bring to its customers.

The state is upgrading its entire system, including the public e-services platform, myDMV, to offer users a simpler, faster, and more secure experience. The statewide transition will happen in February 2026.

This upgrade is set to revolutionize the way customers handle their driver and vehicle needs. Once the new system is fully implemented, Coloradans can expect a new option for a streamlined user experience, complete with a secure, logged-in customer portal that offers a dashboard for managing vehicles, licenses, and personal information as well as correspondence with the DMV, with unprecedented ease.

To facilitate this crucial, state-wide system launch, there will be temporary disruptions to some services. All Coloradans are strongly urged to complete any outstanding driver or vehicle transactions—like renewing vehicle registration or driver licenses—online at mydmv.colorado.gov as soon as possible. On the evening of Friday, February 13th, online transactions will be unavailable through Monday, February 16th.

Additionally, on Tuesday, February 17, scheduled appointments will not be available at any state DMV office. This adjustment is essential to verify that the new state systems are functioning correctly and to allow staff dedicated time to practice in the upgraded platform.

Once the Upgrade is complete, please be aware that in-person appointments may take longer than normal as DMV staff get familiarized with the new system, ensuring customers receive the best service possible moving forward.

These temporary closures pave the way for a much simpler, safer, and faster DMV experience for everyone in Colorado. Thank you for your understanding!
