Appointments

Can you Skip the Trip?

Use these links to complete a task online at myDMV without having to go into a state DMV or county office.

New! As of September 2026, you can now upgrade your driver license online TWICE without visiting an office.

Where to Go?

Driver ID/Services

State driver license offices and some county offices handle all license, permit, and ID-related services. You can make an appointment for services you can’t complete online. Walk-in availability is limited. View all driver license office locations (state and participating counties).

New! El Paso County has expanded driver license services to include new issuances and upgrades in addition to renewals. Visit the El Paso County website for more.

Vehicle Services

Most vehicle services are handled by your local county office, online, or at a kiosk. County appointments can’t be booked on this site, contact your county office, or view all vehicle services. Some vehicle services are available by appointment at the State DMV Westgate office.

Driver Education and Skills Tests

Driver education, drive skills tests, and motorcycle skills tests are provided by third parties. Book directly with a school or testing location, or find an approved provider.

Going to Your Appointment

  1. Bring Your Documents

The #1 reason appointments fail is when people forget to bring the right documents.

All documents must be original (no copies, photos, or laminated versions) or government-certified copies, in English or accompanied by an English translation, and show names that match.

Learn more about the documents that are required for your situation.

  2. Check In

Show your appointment email to the Driver License technician who will scan its barcode.

You can also check in online by replying “check-in” to our SMS text message or scanning the QR code located near the office entrance. You will then get a message when it is time to enter the lobby.

  3. During Your Appointment

You should be aware of a few steps that we take during every appointment, including for a new license//permit/ID, renewal, and duplicates and replacements.

    • Fingerprinting: You will have your fingerprints taken
    • Photo: you will have a photo taken
      • You must remove any eyeglasses; eye patches do NOT have to be removed
      • Your neck and shoulders must be visible; do not wear bulky clothing that hides them (such as a hoodie or any garment with a hood)
      • Hats or headgear of any kind are not permitted for either men or women, except for religious reasons
    • Eye exam: you must pass a basic eye exam
      • If you FAIL the eye exam, you will be given a form (DR 2402) for your optometrist to complete
      • Bring the form back on your rescheduled appointment to receive your license
    • Organ donor: you’ll be asked if you would like to become an organ donor. Learn more about this life-saving program
    • Fees: be prepared to pay any required fees during your visit; pay with cash, check, or credit card

  4. Getting Your License, ID, or Permit

You will get a paper temporary credential at the appointment and your physical credential will be mailed to you within 30 days. There are several different ways you can check on the delivery status:

Accommodations and Language Help at Your Appointment

If you need help communicating during your appointment, support options are available.

  • Translation devices are available at all offices.
  • You may bring a friend, family member, or interpreter to help interpret at your appointment.
    • If you are using an interpreter to help translate a written test, they must present a valid ID, driver license, or permit, and be 16 years of age or older.
    • Interpreters cannot be used for CDL written tests.
  • Request an ASL interpreter
  • If you need auxiliary aids and services for effective communication (such as an assistive listening device, or print material in a digital format) or any other reasonable accommodation, please request it at least seven days before your visit.
